The Man For Me?

I dry my eyes I’m a little magpie

If he made me cry

Then maybe he wasn’t my ride or die

I’ll just hold my head up high

I was meant to fly

I promise he’ll kiss me

And hold me

And love me

I promise he’ll never put another above me

I promise he’ll always kiss me goodnight

And if I have a bad dream

He’ll hold me real tight.

I promise he’ll treat me like the lady I am

And when I’ve been bad

He’ll speak to me real hard (tap tap lol)

And then he’ll kiss my little red cheeks

I promise he’ll kiss me until I go weak

I promise he’ll stuff my little Love Box

As soft as I like it or hard as rocks

But most of all I promise you this: my love will find me and make me his

But there’s a time and place

And when that day comes he’ll give me a ring

I promise that’s the man for me.

These stories arrive by mail.

Every month, a physical envelope arrives at your door, postmarked from San Quentin Village, California. Inside, you will find original artwork, writing, and recipes from real contributors, along with a personal letter from me, Diane Kahn, founder of Humans of San Quentin, about the people who made them. You read it. You keep it.

Every piece comes from someone serving a sentence. Every piece reminds you they are so much more than that.
