After serving 18 years and counting, Iโ€™ve embraced maturity and growth with open arms, holding onto the immense hope that better days are just around the corner.

Here flows a poem, words unfolding to know ’em,
Verbs painted in the canvas of freedomโ€”
A dove ascending into the sky, can you see ’em?
A flight to reach the heavens, believe ’em.

Some long for hope in cellsโ€”come see some,
Each word I offer, from my heart, receive ’em.
And like that dove, needing one hand extended,
To rise, to meet the light unending.

A shot aimed high, toward a blazing star,
Brighter than the sun, so Amazon, afar.
Shooting past Mars, for liberty and success,
Defying limits, Mister Eโ€™s finesse.

A rose blooms through concrete, against all odds,
Living the dream, a blessing from God.
Surpassing expectations, elevating elevations,
Wisdom like a sage, modern-day revelations.

Walking by faith, allergic to fate,
Can you hear the anthem? It resonates great.
Unconditional love, deeper than physical,
Transcending bounds, others call it spiritual.

Actions vocalize where words fall behind,
See the performer, their verbs redefined.
To rise above the rest, lifeโ€™s ultimate test,
From ashes emerged, the phoenix expressed.

A dove ascended, an illuminated phoenix transcended,
Seeking freedom, unconditional love befriended.
And so, this journey endedโ€”hope extended.

After serving 18 years and counting, Iโ€™ve embraced maturity and growth with open arms, holding onto the immense hope that better days are just around the corner. Once sentenced to die in a prison cell for something I didnโ€™t do, my fate took a profound turn just over a year ago. On October 13, 2023, I was re-sentenced to a flat 25 years. It feels as though I died and was resurrected. Now, I have a release dateโ€”a newfound, tangible hope.

Life truly is a mysterious journey.

I want to sincerely thank Diane and the entire HoSQ team for the love and support you show through your incredible efforts to humanize those of us living in a world of concrete and metal bars, designed with sensory deprivation in mind. Your compassion and unwavering dedication are deeply felt, and I included this reflection to emphasize my awareness of just how impactful your work is. From the depths of my heart, thank you for all you do for us.
