She saw potential in me and believed I had a talent worth developing. Her recommendations led to opportunities as a clerk and teacherโs aide, and I am now assisting in Mr. Castroโs computer-related technology class. We teach students how to use Microsoft Office, providing them with essential skills for todayโs job market, where communication and computer literacy are highly valued by employers. I enjoy helping people develop these skills, and I support in creating a positive and engaging learning environment. He is an excellent teacher, knowledgeable, empathetic, and deeply invested in rehabilitation and employability. Iโve seen firsthand how impactful hands-on learning can be. Instead of memorizing information for a test, students practice using these applications directly, which makes the learning experience more meaningful. This work gives my life purpose, knowing that we are making a real difference. I am incredibly grateful to have worked with inspiring mentors like Ms. Toschi and Mr. Castro here at Valley State Prison. They believed in me and gave me a chance, and now, as a teacherโs aide, I can do the same for others. Itโs rewarding to use what Iโve learned to help fellow incarcerated individuals build a better future.
