When I came to the U.S., I was just 18. After a few years, I became the father of an amazing son named Flash and a beautiful daughter named Jazmin. They changed my world. My duty was to teach them, but to my surprise, they were the ones who taught me what it takes to be a man, and I wrote this poem for them.
Through the eyes of a child
No one was born with an instruction manual on how to be a man until I became the father of Jazmin and Flash. My whole world has changed since that day.
Through the eyes of a child.
I don’t have to be perfect to be their role model.
Through the eyes of a child.
I am intelligent because I show them how to use a spoon.
Through the eyes of a child.
I became a superhero when I killed that spider they were afraid of.
Through the eyes of a child.
I was their favorite comedian when I made those funny sounds, and they laughed so hard.
Through the eyes of a child.
It made me realize the real meaning of being a man.
Through the eyes of a child.
I have a second chance to change my past and look to a brighter future.
Through the eyes of a child.
I found myself when I was lost,
With a simple smile, call me Dada.
All these memories keep me strong and alive, knowing that one day we’ll be together.
Until then, memories of my grown son and daughter make me a better person and a better human being.
Love conquers everything negative.
Thank you, Jazmin and Flash
Love DAD
