A part of me still loves you and doesn’t
Want to let go.

Thinking of You

When I think of you, it takes me to
A place by the beach and the water,
All the good times we had,
Shattered dreams.
But every time I think of you,
I want to break down and cry.
A part of me still loves you and doesn’t
Want to let go.
I can still see the smile on your face.
Once upon a time, it brought me happiness.
To know it’s over, it hurts so bad.
When I got locked up, I could still see
You when I looked at the walls.
Sometimes when I lay in my bed and I
Look at the ceiling in my room, I can
See the water and the ocean, but
I know it’s gone.
It’s just another shattered dream.

These stories arrive by mail.

Every month, a physical envelope arrives at your door, postmarked from San Quentin Village, California. Inside, you will find original artwork, writing, and recipes from real contributors, along with a personal letter from me, Diane Kahn, founder of Humans of San Quentin, about the people who made them. You read it. You keep it.

Every piece comes from someone serving a sentence. Every piece reminds you they are so much more than that.
