Art is a great escape from the chaos of prison.

I have the best job on the compound! I am blessed to be the ladiesโ€™ art instructor. God opened the door for the Angeles Eyes Fine Art Program in 2019, and it has grown ever since. The program gives students a new perspective. They build self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth by creating and seeing that they can produce something beautiful and meaningful. It also creates opportunities to restore or strengthen relationships by allowing them to give their masterpieces as gifts. Some even discover a hidden talent that inspires them to continue developing their new skills. Art is a great escape from the chaos of prison. We also hold weekly Bible studies, and the program helps train students in godly thinking, applying Godโ€™s truths to everyday life, giving selflessly, and experiencing the joy of Godโ€™s love firsthand. We now have five different classes serving 38 residents. I always remind them, especially when theyโ€™re being critical of their work, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! God says we are โ€œfearfully and wonderfully made.โ€ We are His masterpieces, each one of us one of a kind, just like their paintings. Included is my artwork โ€œWandering Eyes.โ€ Sheโ€™s named that because her eyes follow you wherever you go.ย
