Iโ€™m practically salivating as I wrap up this story of positivity and good humanity. Letโ€™s all continue to do our part in spreading positivity whenever we can.

One of the many things I miss about being free is discovering a new restaurant and enjoying a nice breakfast or dinner for the first time.

You know that feeling? The thrill of being the first in your groupโ€”whether itโ€™s friends, coworkers, or people from your organizationโ€”to find something special. Iโ€™m proud to be a part of several nonprofit organizations that advocate for oppressed people, like the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, Insight Garden Project, Project Rebound, and No More Tears.

While coordinating my upcoming parole date in late November (Insha-allah), my mentor and friend โ€œGunnerโ€โ€”yes, thatโ€™s what everyone calls himโ€”and I were talking about which organization would meet me at the gate on that special day. Without hesitation, I said, โ€œInsight Garden Project all day!โ€ Their policy of meeting their people at the prison gate on release day is such a beautiful show of support and love, and I canโ€™t wait to experience it. Itโ€™s not heavily advertised, but itโ€™s a service I truly welcome.

Iโ€™m already imagining the ride with these amazing people, and, of course, a hot meal of French toast, turkey bacon, and biscuits with plenty of butter and jellyโ€”just the way I like it! Gunner reassured me that this service is still in place, and heโ€™s going to let Jamala, the director of Insight Garden Projectโ€™s reentry services, know that Iโ€™d love for them to pick me up next month. Iโ€™m practically salivating as I wrap up this story of positivity and good humanity. Letโ€™s all continue to do our part in spreading positivity whenever we can.

Respectfully yours.
