Poetry by Paul

Paul, 66

Incarcerated: 22 years

Housed: San Quentin

My yesterdays are gone

Never to be re-lived

Except as memories

As any other fantasies

Post-traumatic tragedies

Born by other realities

All I have is today

It is with me

I may grasp it

I must embrace it

In all immensity

For it is my own reality

Tomorrow is unforeseen

What does it mean?

So easy I learned

To pull the trigger

My world be burned

When faced with collapse

I chose to relapse

To violence

My old

Unforgiving friend

What will tomorrow bring?

Life, perhaps

But always death

Unforeseen

Unforgiven
