Take that to the Bank

For so troubled is he,

But his soul is free.

With Faith and a smile

He comes smooth with style.

Even though stuck behind bars,

Still has hope to see the stars.

Now I’m clean and free to see,

Dope and alcohol are no way to be.

My heart and mind are enchanted,

Now that your hope has been implanted.

No more nights full of worrywart,

When I get out I can tell my story.

My future now set in stone,

With you by my side I’m never alone.

You are the person I’ll forever thank,

No, lies, no fake

Take that to the bank!

These stories arrive by mail.

Every month, a physical envelope arrives at your door, postmarked from San Quentin Village, California. Inside, you will find original artwork, writing, and recipes from real contributors, along with a personal letter from me, Diane Kahn, founder of Humans of San Quentin, about the people who made them. You read it. You keep it.

Every piece comes from someone serving a sentence. Every piece reminds you they are so much more than that.
