Rise

Cast out, left behind, we are the people no one wants to find.

The love from others caused us to go blind.

We came back to get what was taken.

This is the origin of the forsaken.

With a broken heart, full of pain. In this world, love is so hard to gain.

Voices of the sorrow will be heard like rain.

We are the victims whose hearts was taken.

Now we became the Forsaken

These stories arrive by mail.

Every month, a physical envelope arrives at your door, postmarked from San Quentin Village, California. Inside, you will find original artwork, writing, and recipes from real contributors, along with a personal letter from me, Diane Kahn, founder of Humans of San Quentin, about the people who made them. You read it. You keep it.

Every piece comes from someone serving a sentence. Every piece reminds you they are so much more than that.
