The most impactful moment for me this year was seeing photos of the HoSQ interns making my “Better Than Freedom” cake. That connection to the outside world was indescribable. Since being incarcerated at 16, I’ve often felt discarded by society. Knowing that free people made a cake from a recipe I created was truly therapeutic for my lonely heart.

I’ve been with HoSQ ever since, with no intention of leaving. In the past, I was very self-centered, but today, I work with HoSQ to give other humans here a voice and inspire the outside world with stories of determination, hope, and vulnerable humanity. Through this work, I’ve grown more social and considerate of others. I look forward to another year of meaningful work and continuing to grow into the good man I was meant to become. Thanks for listening.
