Art is life. That is my motto.

I taught myself how to draw since my incarceration to keep my mind level and avoid idle hands. When COVID came, I was introduced to acrylic painting. It became my escape from this reality in a much more influential way. It is my hope and my life. I enjoy painting realism, birds, and flowers, but I also like doing the non-traditional stuff like horror movie characters, zombies, and my own creations. Some of my fondest memories are from working in a tattoo shop, piercing people as others got tattooed. Art is life. That is my motto.

These stories arrive by mail.

Every month, a physical envelope arrives at your door, postmarked from San Quentin Village, California. Inside, you will find original artwork, writing, and recipes from real contributors, along with a personal letter from me, Diane Kahn, founder of Humans of San Quentin, about the people who made them. You read it. You keep it.

Every piece comes from someone serving a sentence. Every piece reminds you they are so much more than that.
