Waking up in prison for the first time is different. It is almost like we are in a timeless place sitting while our life is on hold. The real world awaits us at some point.
Why I began to create art?
I began to create art because it allows me to travel to different places in my imagination. Before I came to prison I never made time to create art. My art teacher Ms. B, shout out to her, would always say โImagination is limitless.โ
For me art has always been a highlight of the day. Art shows were like an amusement park full of entertainment. The art shows in New York being displayed in LA outdoors allowed me to observe different art pieces from some great artists.
As a boy just being able to draw on a ripped shirt gave me a sense of self worth. I would say yes I made this. But I never took any of my artwork seriously because I did not think I was capable of doing great work.
Now as I grow older I understand art arrives in many forms. Art is passion spread onto a piece of paper or canvas. Art is our greatest tool anyone can use to capture a moment in time. Which is why I began to create a moment in time. Which is why I began to create art from a personal space to be able to hold up. Art is life and what is bigger than life art is.
