As long as I have the tools to liberate my creativity, I am free.
Art is a creative medication for me. To give form to a concept through my artwork is an expression of life. As long as I have the tools to liberate my creativity, I am free. I began drawing around the age of four or five. I’m self-taught. My artwork has evolved and expanded over the years to different mediums, techniques, and subjects.
Tarot Cards:
Magician: The hawk fits this card because of its ability to use the four elements in meaningful connection.
IV of Cups: The owl often represents wisdom and is a Precedalore. Here, its gaze is locked onto the past, missing the opportunities that present themselves.
VIII of Cups: The crow is an intelligent bird that knows how to move toward that which is adventurous for them.
X of Pentacles: Swallows return to the places of their own hatching to bring new generations into this world.
VIII of Swords: The geese here in San Quentin are pretty much residents. I find it interesting how they’ve adapted to the environment here and put migration to the side.
IV of Wands: Mourning doves seem too gentle a bird to be found in a prison setting. However, I find their presence somewhat comforting. Prison is both a place for moving things and celebrating change.
