The boy opened his eyes, and what did he see? A man clothed in all white, holding a key.

Once there was a boy locked away in his room, staring through a keyhole at the world he only knew in his imagination. He imagined himself on the other side, playing and laughing with those who are kind. He could spend hours in fantasy about the things he could see, wondering how it would feel if only he were free. One day, the boy saw a family having lunch on the grass, singing songs of worship about Jesus in the past. They sang, “Jesus will set you free, Jesus will set you free.” The little boy thought to himself, what if that could be me? As the family began to leave, the boy yelled through that keyhole, “What about me? What about me?” The family never heard the boy’s voice. As he banged and shouted, the family just rejoiced. As they started to fade from sight, the little boy dropped to his knees and began to cry. Sobbing and sobbing, the boy kept on crying, calling out for Jesus, saying, “I feel like I’m dying!” Suddenly, the boy heard a knock at the door. Who could it be? No one’s done this before. The boy opened his eyes to a mysterious figure coming inside. He covered his face, fearing what he would see. Who would come in? Who could it be? A small, still voice said, “You were born to be free. Open your eyes, boy, so that you can see.” The boy opened his eyes, and what did he see? A man clothed in all white, holding a key. The boy whispered, “Are you Jesus, like in the song they sing?” The man answered, “Yes, boy, I am and I am setting you free.” Jesus reached out his hand to give him the key and said, “My door will always be open, so come follow me.” The boy wiped away his tears and got off his knees, singing, “Praise be to God, Jesus has set me free!” In memory of little Vantwan. Thank you for reading.
