This poem, Two-tone Shoes, and a New Suit, came about when Simon, my son, sent me a photograph of himself when he was 14. He was getting ready to go to a Christmas event or something; he was all dressed up in a brand-new suit, and he was wearing my dad’s two-tone shoes, so I started drawing a portrait of the picture. I feel good when I eat lots of veggies. Veggies and fruit and I felt great when I learned to play chopsticks on the flute. And speaking of chopsticks, some are made from bamboo shoots. And mentioning bamboo makes me think of the zoo and those pandas who are always good for a mood boost. And my panda fish t-shirt, which is a hoot, when the train conductor saw it, he blew the whistle twice. Woo woo. And by the way, the mandrake is a very humorous root. And the slippy slime feel of the Orange River Noot is more precious to me than the loot of a coot. But fruits, flutes, bamboo shoots, zoo panda moot boosts, shirts that are hoots and train whistle-loot-woos, humorous roots, orange river newts, and toots’ lutes are all best enjoyed in two-tone shoes of a new suit.
Two-toned Shoes and a New Suit
I feel good when I eat lots of veggies and fruit,
And felt great when I learned to play “Chopsticks” on the flute,
