Poetry Through the Mic will allow these men to open up and express their emotions in a constructive and positive way.

Music is my passion. I taught myself how to play drums, keyboards, and drum machines. I have a love for the sounds of music. I am trying to start a program called Poetry Through the Mic. I used to do music when I was out, and I really want to create this for the youth in here.ย  Many of those young men have simply made the wrong choices in their lives. I have found that they have lots of skills and talents, and deep down inside they are hurting from past traumas in their childhood years. This program will bring many of them together in a positive way, instead of fighting one another. Poetry Through the Mic will allow these men to open up and express their emotions in a constructive and positive way. I know they have so much to talk about, and I have the beats they need. I want them to have fun expressing themselves while sending a positive message to other young men or to anyone who has their ear open. When I was 13, my mom and sister went to the mall while I stayed home. When they came back, my mother asked me to get the food out of the trunk of the car. They stood in the doorway while I went to the trunk and there was a $3,000 keyboard right before my eyes. That was the best gift I ever had. I was so happy when I saw it, and my mom waited to see how excited I would be. I brought the keyboard into the house, hooked it up to the speakers, and played until about one in the morning on a school night. I look forward to working with anyone who is serious about music like I am.
