I came to realize what God was showing me: my brother will follow me everywhere. Whether it’s to prison, an early grave, or a better life—that’s my choice. That’s why I’m going to change my ways. We have to do better.

When I was on the streets, it was just me and my little brother. He followed me everywhere—it’s been that way since we were kids. I used to hate it, but now it fills me with pride and a sense of responsibility.

Even when I wasn’t leading us in the best direction, my brother was always there by my side. Love and loyalty—that’s all that matters to me. Sadly, we were separated when I came to prison. He was still on the streets, and I couldn’t reach him. Every night before I slept, I prayed for God to protect him and bless him.

Then, out of the blue, I got a letter. It was from my little brother, and it was sent from the intake facility at Coffee Creek. About three days later, I was walking to dinner, and there he was in the hallway. He called my name: “Tyreese.” We hugged, and I asked him what unit he was on. Turns out, he was in the unit right next to mine.

Since then, we’ve been able to stay connected. I came to realize what God was showing me: my brother will follow me everywhere. Whether it’s to prison, an early grave, or a better life—that’s my choice. That’s why I’m going to change my ways. We have to do better.

Yours truly,

Tyreese
