God motivates me to get up each day, stay calm, and continue toward the next chapter of my life.

I was at home with plenty of dope, cigarettesโ€”everything. But being a drug addict, I decided to leave the house to get more. I went from Purvis to the Hattiesburg Store where I worked, to meet my dealer. Thatโ€™s where the cops got me. (I had been on the run from probation for three years.) That night, I threw my hands in the air and asked God to change my life and break my addiction. On May 23rd, 2024, I was locked up in Samar County. I was held in Purvis for a charge and took a plea deal for five years of probation, thinking I was going to get out. But Warren County put a hold on me because I had been running. Once I was done in Purvis, I was transported to Warren County and sentenced to 16 months in the Alcohol and Drug Education program (AED). Now Iโ€™m at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. This May 23rd will mark two years of being clean. I graduate from AED on June 18th, and my parole date is July 25th. Needless to say, it was my addiction that led me to prison.

What gets you through each day?

My determination to graduate, leave here, and go to a halfway house. God motivates me to get up each day, stay calm, and continue toward the next chapter of my life.
