My cellmate had been complaining since Monday about chest pains. That Friday afternoon around 3:30, he had a heart attack in our cell. I called out through the cell door for an emergency, shouting that it was a heart attack. I laid him flat on the floor and started CPR, doing chest compressions. After about thirty, he let out a big exhale, opened his eyes, and looked straight into mine. He did not say a word. I told him, hang in there, little buddy, the nurses are on the way. About that time, the officers came to the cell door, dragged him out, and continued CPR. Sadly, he did not make it. He was 55 and lost his life from stress over going to the parole board. He was a nonviolent third striker. It is a memory that will never leave me.

I was arrested at 16, tried as an adult, and sentenced to fifteen years to life for second-degree murder. I was not a model resident for many years, but today I am a whole new man through the mercy and grace of our savior Jesus Christ, Yahshua. My next parole hearing is scheduled for February 3, 2027. It will be my elderly hearing, and I feel good about being found suitable on that date.

Thanks to the Humans of San Quentin for showing the world that just because we made mistakes, we are still good people. I wish I had better pictures to send. Those are from September 2025.

Have a blessed day, and may our savior Jesus Christ guide you with every step you take. Amen.
