Every role I take on is part of a bigger goal: to keep learning, growing, and helping others see whatโ€™s possible, no matter where they start.

Fifteen years ago, I couldnโ€™t have imagined the life Iโ€™m living todayโ€”a life filled with purpose, growth, and the chance to help men in here transform their lives. Iโ€™m currently working with the Quality Management Team to develop and implement new projects for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, alongside my role as a Peer Support Specialist. I collaborate with medical staff to roll out campaigns, lead workshops, and educate my peers on topics like healthcare and recovery methods. Itโ€™s not just about sharing knowledgeโ€”itโ€™s about showing others that change is possible because Iโ€™ve lived it. One of the most rewarding parts of this work is presenting to students in classrooms and seeing the spark of inspiration in their eyes.

This year has brought some incredible opportunities and recognition. I was honored to receive the top spot in the State of California for Service through the Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity, a moment that still feels surreal. We have started the first fraternity inside a prison. My achievements were highlighted on the Alpha Gamma Sigma and Merced College websites, and even in the Blue Devilโ€™s Advocate November newsletter under “Rising Scholars.” Iโ€™ve also joined the Patient Advisory Council, where I help amplify patient perspectives to improve healthcare programs. And beyond all this, Iโ€™m part of the Debate Team, working alongside members from Fresno State University. Every role I take on is part of a bigger goal: to keep learning, growing, and helping others see whatโ€™s possible, no matter where they start.
