I have an affinity for basketball shoes, but only Nikes and Jordans.

What I miss the most from being outside is weekly shopping trips to the mall with either my mom and my baby brother or my two best friends, Aaron and J.D. It was always funny going with my mom because it was supposedly established (ineffectively?) that we were going there for something specific or just to walk around. Basically, don’t ask for anything. I always liked going to City Kicks and Getta Clue. I have an affinity for basketball shoes, but only Nikes and Jordans. I would always try to lure her into either store. At that time, my brother was a baby, so I would tell her they had something for him. I’d say we should get it now or reserve it for later and have his dad buy it. When that worked, I’d move on to her weakness, high heels. I would tell her they had new ones, or I’d casually steer the stroller in front of a window where there were new purses. Because then, well, she needed the shoes to match. Naturally, I would always ask for some new kicks. She would always hide the heels and purses in her car trunk and have me sneak them into the house later that night to hide in her closet. My new shoes were like a bribe. When my brother’s dad would ask, “When did your mum get those?” I’d say, “She’s had those,” or “Those are old.” Then he’d ask, “What about your new shoes?” I’d reply, “These are J.D.’s,” or “Naw, these are Aaron’s. Him and I are just switching right now.”
