I am happy I exist. I live in a male institution, but I am a transwoman. I’m thankful that I was able to receive hormone therapy to treat my gender related depression and identity issues. Since receiving this care, my life has changed for the better. I’m in my zone. A little slice of perfection carved out for me where I can be the best version of myself possible. I love life. I am able to communicate effectively. I behave appropriately. I am happy I exist. An entire 360 from before. Before, I was not happy I existed. I did not feel comfortable in my own skin, and I hated the world for not accepting me for who I wanted to be.
Hormone therapy is essential. It could be the catalyst that brings about a major mindset shift in many people who use it, making us better people, ones who are a part of the wider society and are productive and caring. Without it, we are an imminent danger to everyone around us. We don’t understand the brevity of life because our lives lack purpose. Inmates in Missouri are about to lose access to hormone therapy due to Missouri HB 2009, which asks the state to not use public funds for cross gender transition hormone therapy. Those of us who are in here for life and recipients of the care are devastated. Wondering how our mental health will fare when they stop care? What will we look like? Why are they targeting us? Many of the girls have killed themselves because they could not get access to care.
America, the greatest gift we can give ourselves is the gift of knowing who the hell we are. It’s our right, and rights are not something we can grant to the government. They are ours inherently to keep. Help protect our right to care.
Trans healthcare matters.
Respectfully,

The title caught my eye; I wonder what makes Da’Shae’s story unique. The concept of ‘summer breeze’ sounds like a cool vibe.
